About The Position

Pima Medical Institute is seeking a licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) to join our Houston campus as a Full-Time Veterinary Technician Instructor. This role is ideal for a veterinarian who wants to stay clinically active while shaping the next generation of veterinary professionals in a supportive, low-stress academic environment. You will serve as both an instructor and the campus’s Attending Veterinarian, providing medical oversight for program animals, ensuring compliance with AVMA and USDA standards, and guiding students through hands-on learning that mirrors real clinical practice.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
  • Must graduate with a degree certifying Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
  • Licensed Veterinarian in the state in which the campus is located.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a DVM in a clinic, hospital or shelter environment.
  • Must hold current license, certification or other designation as required by local, state or federal laws to work in the field.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills with experience in basic word processing and spreadsheet documents.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with visual computer presentation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Attending Veterinarian and participate in all IACUC meetings.
  • Examine program animals, review diagnostics, and communicate findings to rescue partners.
  • Provide final medical decisions and perform necessary medical procedures.
  • Maintain DEA licensure and controlled substance logs, including supply levels and expiration tracking.
  • Ensure medical records meet AVMA and USDA requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, demonstrations, and daily lesson plans.
  • Monitor hands-on lab competencies and confirm student skill levels.
  • Maintain an 80% student success rate and implement retention plans when needed.
  • Maintain accurate grades, prepare final evaluations, and coordinate with Student Services on attendance concerns.
  • Arrange guest speakers, field trips, and clinic/hospital visits.
  • Assist with externship coordination as needed.
  • Monitor students in lab settings and ensure all safety protocols are followed.
