About The Position

The Arizona Humane Society is looking for a full-time, dedicated, and motivated Veterinary Technician to join our Sunnyslope Public Clinic. This role involves working 4 10-hour shifts, split between Monday-Friday and eventually Saturdays, from 6:45 am to 5:15 pm (end time can vary). The position is at a low-cost animal clinic, assisting the public with animal wellness. The Veterinary Technician will support veterinarians in all aspects of care for owned animals in the community, including AHS' Spay/Neuter and Wellness programs. Responsibilities include prepping for surgery, anesthesia monitoring, patient recovery, laboratory diagnostics, patient handling, vaccine knowledge, fluid therapy, administering prescribed medications, client education, and maintaining clinic asepsis.

Requirements

  • High school diploma / GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital required.
  • Expertise in phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology and pharmacology required.
  • Must be proficient in anesthesiology.
  • Demonstrate commitment to spay/neuter initiatives with a positive attitude.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and background screening to be compliant with DEA requirements for dispensing controlled drugs.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a veterinary technician program and certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians in all aspects of care for owned animals.
  • Support AHS' Spay/Neuter and Wellness programs.
  • Prep animals for surgery.
  • Monitor anesthesia.
  • Manage patient recovery.
  • Perform laboratory diagnostics.
  • Restrain and handle animals.
  • Administer prescribed medications (oral, IV, IM, SQ).
  • Educate clients.
  • Maintain clinic asepsis.
  • Provide excellent patient care in all perioperative phases for up to 60 cats and/or dogs per day.
  • Administer injections (IV, IM, SQ) as directed by the Veterinarian.
  • Intubate animals, place intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture and administer fluids as needed.
  • Monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients in preoperative, operative, and postoperative phases.
  • Administer microchips and fill prescriptions.
  • Stay current in knowledge of emergency drugs and protocols.
  • Communicate in an effective and professional manner with the public and all staff members.
  • Prepare home-care instructions and receipts for all services performed.
  • Fill prescriptions from veterinarian's written or verbal orders and provide clients with instructions for administration of prescriptions.
