Veterinary Technician, ER
About The Position
The Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty in Bowie, MD is hiring a full- time Veterinary Technician to join our emergency team on the day or swing shift! This is a full-time position with a compensation range of $23- 29/hr, based on experience and skill set. The schedule involves 3/12 or 4/10 hour shifts per week, with day shifts from 10 am to 8 pm and swing shifts from 2 pm to 12 am. Weekends, holidays, and on-call duties are required as needed. The role requires a minimum of 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Technician, demonstrated excellence in nursing care and critical thinking, a strong desire to learn, and the ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment. The hospital is a 24/7 state-of-the-art veterinary hospital committed to a culture of Compassion, Collaboration, Education, and Integrity, and it functions as a teaching hospital with seven departments.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Technician
- Demonstrated excellence in nursing care and critical thinking skills
- Strong desire to learn and grow in the role.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment.
- Proficient in calculating doses and administering intravenous drugs and fluids
- Capable of monitoring patients under anesthesia
- Skilled in obtaining and analyzing laboratory samples (blood, urine, and stool)
- Experience in catheter placement
- Possesses the stamina of an athlete to keep up with lively kitties and energetic puppies
- Strong time management, initiative, and task prioritization skills
Nice To Haves
- ventilator experience is a plus!
- Expertise in interpreting meows, barks, and chirps—telepathic skills are a plus!
