About The Position

Southern Rockies Animal Emergency & Specialty Hospital (SRAES) is seeking a Per Diem Outpatient Technician to support their Emergency Service. This role involves triaging incoming patients, assisting with diagnostics and treatments, and ensuring efficient patient flow in a fast-paced specialty and emergency setting. The technician will work alongside a collaborative team dedicated to delivering exceptional care when pets need it most. SRAES provides 24/7 emergency and critical care services along with advanced specialty care in surgery and diagnostic imaging, utilizing a multidisciplinary approach where specialists and emergency clinicians collaborate seamlessly.

Requirements

  • RVT/LVT/CVT preferred but not required.
  • Experienced Veterinary Technicians with a minimum of 2 years of emergency veterinary experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong understanding of emergency triage and patient assessment.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture, patient restraint, medication administration, and sample collection.
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
  • Excellent communication and client service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced emergency environment.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required; multilingual candidates encouraged to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with radiography and laboratory procedures preferred.
  • Anesthesia and sedation monitoring experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Triage patients presenting to the Emergency Department according to established triage protocols.
  • Obtain patient histories, vital signs, and presenting concerns for emergency evaluations.
  • Immediately identify and escalate critical or life-threatening conditions to the attending veterinarian.
  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to STAT cases and emergency situations.
  • Perform venipuncture, sample collection, patient restraint, and medication administration as directed by a veterinarian.
  • Administer subcutaneous fluids and assist with treatment plans.
  • Obtain and process laboratory samples and diagnostic testing.
  • Assist with radiographs while following established radiation safety protocols.
  • Perform anesthesia and sedation support, including induction, monitoring, and recovery, according to hospital protocols.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and treatments.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records using hospital software systems.
  • Create treatment estimates and communicate financial information to clients when appropriate.
  • Assist with client education, treatment plan discussions, and patient discharge instructions.
  • Collaborate with emergency, surgery, imaging, and specialty departments to ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Maintain hospital cleanliness, organization, and inventory within assigned work areas.
  • Participate in department meetings and contribute to a positive hospital culture.
  • Support overall hospital operations and assist with additional duties as needed.
