About The Position

Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center in Wilmington, NC is hiring an experienced Anesthesia Recovery Technician to join our outstanding Surgery team! This role is crucial for ensuring safe and smooth recoveries for post-operative patients. The technician will work closely with anesthesia, surgery, and ICU teams to monitor patients, respond to complications, and provide hands-on nursing care during the critical recovery phase. The position is full-time, Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

Requirements

• Veterinary assistant or technician experience required
• Basic knowledge of anesthetic monitoring and recovery protocols
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a high-volume environment
• Strong attention to detail and ability to remain calm under pressure
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Commitment to patient safety and high-quality care

Nice To Haves

• Previous anesthesia or recovery experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Closely monitor patients during the anesthesia recovery phase
• Track and record vital parameters (HR, RR, SpO₂, temperature, blood pressure)
• Recognize and respond to recovery complications such as dysphoria, hypothermia, and airway concerns
• Provide hands-on nursing care including extubation, pain assessment, and comfort measures
• Assist with patient preparation, including radiographs and OR setup/teardown
• Fill medications and submit lab samples
• Communicate effectively with anesthesia, surgery, and ICU teams
• Assist with patient transfers and provide thorough handoffs to ICU or wards
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked recovery area
• Support the anesthesia team during high caseload periods
