About The Position

Serve as part of MIT’s centralized animal care program, providing clinical care and research support for a diverse range of species. Under the supervision of campus veterinarians, perform clinical observations, treatments, sample collection, colony management, technical procedures, and other study-related activities in compliance with approved protocols, SOPs, and regulatory requirements. Work independently while collaborating closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and researchers to promote animal health, welfare, research integrity, and exceptional service. Maintain clear communication regarding animal health, project progress, and clinical concerns.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least three years of experience handling laboratory animals
  • Demonstrated time management, organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications
  • Ability to work weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Ability to participate in a rotating holiday coverage schedule upon completion of training

Nice To Haves

  • AALAS certification and/or CVT or equivalent
  • Undergraduate degree in animal science, biology, or related field
  • Experience with anesthesia administration and pre and post-operative animal care
  • Proficiency in technical skills, including but not limited to injections and blood/tissue collection
