About The Position

The Terrestrial Species Supervisor is an administrative and supervisory position responsible for supervising staff monitoring and restoring terrestrial species. The position is administratively responsible for eight permanent, full-time employees, including the direct supervision of four Conservation Biologist I and four Wildlife Conservation Technician I positions that make up the Terrestrial Species Team. This position is HOME-BASED. The workstation for this position is in the employee’s home-based office using an agency-provided computer. The employee in this position is expected to provide home office space compliant with WRC and State policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in wildlife or fisheries management, fisheries science, zoology, or a biological science, or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must reside in the Mountain Region (west of I-77).
  • Experience supervising field teams.
  • Experience coordinating work across work groups and with partners.
  • Knowledge of Species of Greatest Conservation Need and NC Wildlife Action Plan species ecology, genetics, habitat requirements, habitat management monitoring and restoration practices.
  • Experience identifying challenges, conflict resolution, tracking resources, managing budgets, and project/resource adjustments.
  • Experience with ArcGIS.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising staff monitoring and restoring terrestrial species.
  • Direct supervision of four Conservation Biologist I and four Wildlife Conservation Technician I positions.
  • Ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Coordinating work across work groups and with partners to meet recovery and conservation goals.
  • Developing, reviewing, and evaluating project plans and field work.
  • Identifying challenges, conflict resolution, tracking resources, managing budgets, and making project/resource adjustments to keep work aligned with recovery objectives.
