The Veterinary Sonographer role focuses on providing ultrasound support to VEG hospitals and training facilities, working closely with emergency doctors to perform same-day scans. This role involves handling diverse patient types and scans, requiring adaptability and a willingness to learn new techniques. The Sonographer will also assist in coordinating ultrasound education and training for hospitals, motivating colleagues, and supporting hospital operations as needed.

Requirements

  • Credentialed as a Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT/LVMT), diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS), and/or equivalent experience (e.g., sonographer course certificates).
  • 3+ years veterinary ultrasound experience.
  • Previous training experience and the patience to teach and develop doctors, nurses, and fellow sonographers.
  • Comfortable mentoring others and giving/receiving feedback from colleagues.
  • Adaptability to changing environments.
  • Excellent communicator with peers, customers, and VEGgies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ultrasound studies and facilitate ultrasound training at home and regional hospitals.
  • Maintain good relationships with and accept feedback from teleconsultation radiologists.
  • Ensure training content and activities align with VEG culture, mission, and vision, and represent accurate, up-to-date sonographic techniques.
  • Track doctor and nursing team skills with a VEG Ultrasound Certificate checklist.
  • Engage in self-reflection and program evaluation to enhance VEG’s ultrasound training programs.
  • Meet regularly with medical directors, nursing trainer, and director of radiology education to discuss program development, training objectives, and needs.
  • Meet regularly with the hospital manager and medical director to discuss implementation of new training protocols, training schedules, hospital training needs, and team concerns.
  • Coordinate weekly schedule to work on floor shifts and devote time to training responsibilities.
  • Assist in developing ultrasound curriculum material (e.g., PowerPoints, videos, simulations, assessments).
  • Provide educational demonstrations for doctors and nurses at other VEGs on various ultrasound topics (abdominal, thoracic, cardiac, cervical, musculoskeletal).
