Requirements
- Credentialed as a veterinary technician (RVT), diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS), and/or equivalent experience (e.g., sonographer course certificates)
- 3+ years of veterinary ultrasound experience
- Patience to train and develop doctors, support staff, and fellow sonographers
- Previous experience in a training role
- Comfortable mentoring others and giving/receiving feedback from colleagues
- A positive and friendly personality
- Ability to adapt to changing environments; a team player
- Love working with animals and people
- Excellent communication skills with peers, customers, and VEGgies
- Embrace the VEG Way and be excited to share your perspective and experience
- Ability to recognize and celebrate other VEGgies’ successes when you see it
- Eagerness to grow as a sonographer through skills and knowledge development
- Desire to travel to regional hospitals and off-site training facilities (e.g., Fort Collins, CO; Las Vegas, NV; White Plains, NY, etc.)
Responsibilities
- Perform ultrasound studies and facilitate ultrasound training at your home hospital and regional hospitals
- Maintain good relationships with and accept feedback from teleconsultation radiologists reading your studies (e.g., Antech, SonoPath, IDEXX, VetsChoice, etc.)
- Ensure all training content and activities are in alignment with VEG culture, mission, and vision, and represent accurate, up-to-date sonographic techniques
- Track doctor and nursing team skills with a VEG Ultrasound Certificate checklist
- Engage in self-reflection and program evaluation practices to modify and enhance VEG’s ultrasound training programs
- Regularly meet with the medical directors, nursing trainer, and director of radiology education to discuss program development, training objectives, and additional needs
- Regularly meet with the hospital manager and medical director to discuss implementation of new training protocols, training schedules, hospital training needs, and interpersonal concerns
- Coordinate weekly schedule to work on the floor shifts with the hospital manager and medical director and dedicate time to training responsibilities
- May assist in developing ultrasound curriculum material, such as PowerPoints, videos, simulations, and assessments to be implemented across the doctor and nursing team training programs
- May provide educational demonstrations for doctors and support staff at other VEGs, including ultrasound topics, such as abdominal, thoracic, cardiac, cervical, and musculoskeletal studies
