About The Position

The Charleston Veterinary Referral Center is seeking a full-time Veterinary Nursing Manager to lead the nursing department, ensuring operational excellence and exceptional patient care. This role involves overseeing staff development, strategic planning, and operational workflows, linking nursing activities with hospital-wide objectives and advancing initiatives that support both the organization and the veterinary nursing profession. The ideal candidate is a compassionate and skilled veterinary nurse with a passion for leadership and operational excellence, thriving in a fast-paced environment with a strong commitment to high standards of patient care.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology or related field required.
  • CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT required.
  • 4–6 years of clinical veterinary experience required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in leadership required.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle high-stress situations with diplomacy and professionalism.
  • A commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality care to patients and their families.

Nice To Haves

  • CVPM or VTS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead departmental planning aligned with hospital goals and develop/adapt strategies to meet evolving needs.
  • Manage labor margins and expenses to ensure fiscal responsibility while supporting staff motivation.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development of nursing staff to maintain high performance standards.
  • Implement best practices and clinical governance in collaboration with medical directors, ensuring compliance with veterinary standards and policies.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Trainer and nursing leaders to address development needs and enhance patient care quality.
  • Mentor Nursing Supervisors and Nursing Trainer, conduct performance evaluations, and foster a culture of learning and excellence.
  • Maintain clear, collaborative communication within the hospital.
  • Promote veterinary nursing within the hospital and across the profession.
  • Foster a diverse, inclusive, and professional workplace culture.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance client satisfaction and address concerns.
  • Direct nursing actions in urgent patient care situations.
