About The Position

We are seeking a highly organized, proactive, and inspiring Veterinary Nursing Floor Lead to orchestrate the daily operations of our medical floor. In this role, you will be the heartbeat of the treatment area, ensuring that patient care is delivered efficiently, safely, and with the highest medical standards. The Floor Lead blends hands-on clinical mastery with exceptional team leadership. You will be responsible for keeping appointments moving smoothly, driving the training and development of our assistant and technician staff, managing scheduling, and fostering a high-engagement, positive team culture. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and love bringing out the best in your team, this role is for you.

Requirements

  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or a highly experienced Veterinary Assistant with a proven track record of clinical mastery.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience in a fast-paced veterinary hospital, with at least 1–2 years in a leadership, shift-lead, or primary trainer role.
  • Exceptional spatial awareness and logistics skills; ability to look at a busy treatment floor and instantly see where resources and personnel need to be deployed.
  • Strong emotional intelligence. Ability to deliver constructive feedback gently but directly, motivate a diverse team, and resolve interpersonal conflicts constructively.
  • Mastery of advanced nursing skills (e.g., anesthesia monitoring, IV catheter placement, emergency triage, pharmacology knowledge) and familiarity with veterinary practice management software.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the daily traffic of the hospital. Actively monitor the schedule to ensure outpatient appointments, diagnostics, and surgeries move efficiently from check-in to discharge. Strategically pivot the team to handle emergencies and unexpected bottlenecks.
  • Design, implement, and oversee the onboarding and continuing education programs for veterinary assistants and technicians. Assess skill levels, sign off on clinical competencies, and provide real-time coaching on the floor.
  • Create and manage equitable, balanced schedules for the nursing team, ensuring adequate coverage across all shifts. Monitor daily labor hours and adjust staffing levels dynamically based on caseload and hospital workflow.
  • Actively work to boost team morale, prevent burnout, and foster a supportive, collaborative work environment. Implement engagement initiatives, lead team huddles, and act as a champion for open communication and mutual respect.
  • Maintain a presence on the floor, upholding strict standards for patient care, medical record accuracy, OSHA compliance, and hospital cleanliness.
  • Partner closely with the CSR Lead, Veterinarians, Lead Doctor and Practice Manager to ensure seamless communication between the front desk, medical floor, and clients.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package (commensurate with credentials and leadership experience).
  • Generous pet care discounts for your personal animals.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) and uniform allowance.
  • CE (Continuing Education) budget and licensing fee reimbursement for credentialed technicians.
