About The Position

This volunteer role is responsible for overseeing and leading the In-House Medical Pack, which includes various specialized teams. The primary goal is to manage the medical care for the rescue's dogs, treating them 'In House' to steward resources effectively and save more dogs. The position requires leadership, collaboration with rescue leadership, daily check-ins with remote team members, and acting as the first point of escalation for issues. Training new team members is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Experience and love of veterinary medicine - Rescue medicine is hardcore and hands on!
  • Love of teaching and leading - you have to be able to share your knowledge and teach others with patience. You will be leading a team of volunteers.
  • Emotional control - can you think logically when a puppy is dying? Can you help tease out actual facts from a foster who is panicked about her dog?
  • Process Improvement - how can we do better? Is there a better process, platform or way?
  • Excellent collaboration - you cannot do it all on your own. You are part of a very large team and will be expected to 'play well with others'.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing and leading the In-House Medical Pack, consisting of the roles: Medical Consultant, In House Laboratory, Whelping Team, Supportive Care and Mobile Canine Care Teams.
  • Collaborating with Rescue Leadership frequently, aware of Rescue operations.
  • Checking in with remote team once daily (M-F).
  • First level escalation of issues.
  • Training new team members.
  • Tracks and monitors current cases, ensuring continuity of care and escalation of care as Medical Consultants deem necessary.
  • Works closely with all Medical Pack Leaders to ensure accurate record keeping, preventative care schedules and surgeries.
  • Learns and operates within a 'Rescue Medicine' framework.
  • Regularly reviews or creates SOPs in collaboration with partner vets and other medical volunteers.
  • Is aware or creative in cost saving or resource saving processes.
