Experienced Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
Rockville Road Animal Hospital is a progressive, two-doctor small animal practice in Indianapolis, Indiana, committed to compassionate care, strong client relationships, and high-quality treatment. The hospital provides preventative and urgent care, surgery, and advanced dentistry, with in-house diagnostics, digital full-body X-rays, dental radiology, cold laser therapy, and high-speed dentistry. This hands-on role supports patient care and clinical procedures while offering opportunities to develop veterinary skills. The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and every other Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM; it is closed Sundays. The position pays $17–$20 per hour. The work involves handling animals, standing for extended periods, and possible exposure to animal waste, odors, noise, bites, scratches, and infectious diseases.
Requirements
- At least one year of Veterinary Assistant experience.
- Previous anesthesia experience.
- Strong pet-handling and restraint skills.
- A compassionate, calm, team-oriented approach.
- Excellent communication and multitasking abilities.
- A self-starter eager to learn and grow professionally.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with sample collection, laboratory testing, radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Safely restrain pets and assist with patient triage.
- Collect samples and process laboratory tests.
- Assist with diagnostic imaging and radiographs.
- Provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized patients.
- Administer medications and monitor patient progress.
- Prepare patients for surgery and assist during procedures.
- Support anesthesia administration and monitoring.
- Communicate with clients about medical histories and treatment plans.
