About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department. This role involves triaging emergency cases, assisting veterinarians with estimates, performing diagnostics, setting up patients, discharging patients, and handling client communication. The Veterinary Assistant will provide nursing care, report patient status, understand medication protocols, administer medications, perform phlebotomy, conduct physical exams, and possess knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment. They will also remain current on CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in their assigned role.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant
  • Ability to triage emergency cases
  • Assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates
  • Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc)
  • Setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward
  • Discharging patients
  • Handling client communication
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines
  • Unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
  • Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Perform phlebotomy.
  • Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
