Veterinary Assistant, Emergency
About The Position
The Veterinary Assistant will support the emergency department at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Hillsborough, New Jersey. The role suits someone who is adaptable, can work independently, and enjoys a fast-paced environment where each day is different. The hospital provides 24/7 emergency care and a range of specialty services in a 19,000-square-foot facility with advanced technology, including a 16-slice CT, surgical suites, and a centralized ICU. The environment is designed with Fear Free principles and patient comfort in mind. The position is full-time, with flexible scheduling options across day, mid-, and night/overnight shifts. One weekend shift per week is required. Compensation is $17–$19 per hour, based on experience.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience working as a veterinary assistant in a veterinary hospital.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing departmental needs.
- Experience handling dogs and cats.
- Basic computer knowledge and medical terminology knowledge.
- Fluent English speaking and reading skills.
Nice To Haves
- Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA).
- Fluency in multiple languages.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to clinical departments as needed.
- Remain accessible and respond to requests for assistance throughout the hospital.
- Assist with patient care, restraint, treatments, diagnostics, and radiographs.
- Perform basic laboratory duties, including running in-house tests and submitting samples.
- Maintain hospital cleanliness.
- Communicate effectively with clients, doctors, and hospital staff.
