Requirements

  • Previous veterinary assistant or veterinary clinical experience
  • Safe and effective patient handling and restraint skills
  • Knowledge of preventive care, vaccines, and patient wellness
  • Experience with venipuncture, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and sample collection
  • Experience obtaining quality radiographs and assisting with diagnostic imaging
  • Understanding of medication administration and basic veterinary pharmacology
  • Ability to obtain thorough patient histories and recognize concerns that should be brought to the medical team's attention
  • Professional and compassionate communication with clients and teammates
  • Confidence educating clients about treatments, medications, discharge instructions, and preventive care
  • Strong documentation skills and attention to accurate medical records
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • A collaborative, team-first mindset and willingness to jump in wherever needed

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and medical procedures
  • Provide compassionate, high-quality care from patient intake through discharge
  • Safely handle and restrain patients while prioritizing comfort and safety
  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
  • Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, fluid therapy, and diagnostic sample collection based on experience and training
  • Obtain high-quality radiographs and maintain imaging standards
  • Utilize Fear Free® and low-stress handling techniques to promote patient comfort and safety
  • Obtain thorough patient histories and communicate relevant information to the medical team
  • Educate clients with compassion, clarity, and confidence regarding patient care, medications, discharge instructions, and preventive healthcare
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records and treatment documentation
  • Keep treatment and exam areas clean, organized, stocked, and ready for patients
  • Follow hospital infection-control and safety protocols
  • Collaborate with doctors and teammates to keep the hospital running smoothly
