Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
Ellison Drive Animal Hospital has been caring for the pets and families of San Antonio, TX, for more than 20 years. As a Veterinary Assistant, you’ll play an important role in supporting our veterinarians and veterinary technicians while helping create a positive experience for both our patients and their families. Our hospital provides a variety of veterinary services, including wellness and routine care, surgery, grooming, and boarding, giving you the opportunity to build and expand your veterinary skills in a diverse setting.
Requirements
- Compassionate, dependable Veterinary Assistant who enjoys working with both people and pets
- Previous veterinary experience is preferred, with at least one year of experience being a plus
- Calm, compassionate, and comfortable working with a variety of animals
- A strong team player and communicator
- Comfortable properly restraining pets
- Able to multitask and prioritize in a busy veterinary setting
- A self-starter who takes initiative and enjoys learning
- Familiar with sample collection, obtaining medical histories, laboratory testing, and radiographs
Nice To Haves
- Experienced with anesthesia monitoring or other advanced veterinary skills is a bonus
Responsibilities
- Safely restraining patients for veterinary examinations and procedures
- Triaging incoming patients and assisting with patient assessments
- Collecting and processing laboratory samples
- Assisting with diagnostic imaging and radiographs
- Providing nursing care and monitoring hospitalized patients with varying levels of stability
- Administering medications as directed by the veterinary team
- Obtaining medical histories and communicating with clients about treatment plans
- Preparing patients for surgery and assisting with surgical procedures
- Supporting anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe veterinary environment
