Whether you're assisting with surgeries, providing hands-on patient care, administering medications, or helping animals recover and heal, your work will have a direct impact on thousands of animals each year. What You'll Do As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll support our veterinarians and veterinary team by providing compassionate medical care and ensuring high standards of treatment for animals in our shelter and surgery programs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Ability to read, write, communicate effectively, perform basic math, and solve routine problems
Nice To Haves
- Previous animal handling experience
- Experience in a veterinary clinic, shelter, or animal care environment
Responsibilities
- Assisting veterinarians during examinations and treatments
- Safely restraining and handling animals during medical procedures
- Administering medications and treatments as directed
- Calculating medication dosages accurately
- Monitoring and communicating patient status and medical concerns
- Assisting with surgical preparation, patient recovery, and post-operative care
- Maintaining accurate medical records and entering data into shelter software
- Cleaning kennels and providing daily animal care
- Restocking medical and surgical supplies
- Assisting with humane euthanasia procedures when necessary
- Working collaboratively with shelter staff, volunteers, and other departments to support positive outcomes for animals
