As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll play a vital role in helping animals receive the medical care they need while supporting a team dedicated to improving the lives of pets and the people who love them. Whether you're assisting with surgeries, providing hands-on patient care, administering medications, or helping animals recover and heal, your work will have a direct impact on thousands of animals each year. What You'll Do As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll support our veterinarians and veterinary team by providing compassionate medical care and ensuring high standards of treatment for animals in our shelter and surgery programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Ability to read, write, communicate effectively, perform basic math, and solve routine problems

Nice To Haves

  • Previous animal handling experience
  • Experience in a veterinary clinic, shelter, or animal care environment

Responsibilities

  • Assisting veterinarians during examinations and treatments
  • Safely restraining and handling animals during medical procedures
  • Administering medications and treatments as directed
  • Calculating medication dosages accurately
  • Monitoring and communicating patient status and medical concerns
  • Assisting with surgical preparation, patient recovery, and post-operative care
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and entering data into shelter software
  • Cleaning kennels and providing daily animal care
  • Restocking medical and surgical supplies
  • Assisting with humane euthanasia procedures when necessary
  • Working collaboratively with shelter staff, volunteers, and other departments to support positive outcomes for animals
