About The Position

Park Nicollet is looking to hire a Same Day Surgery Center (SDSC) Perioperative (OR) Patient Care Supervisor to join their team. This role involves daily supervision and support of the Perioperative department and leading teams who provide direct patient care. The position is responsible for assessing and developing team members, managing performance, ensuring consistent and fair practices, and ensuring correct staffing/scheduling. The Patient Care Supervisor will develop and maintain interpersonal relationships with other leaders and departments, manage supplies and equipment in collaboration with management and team members, and directly supervise registered nurses, charge nurses, nursing assistants, techs, and ancillary staff. This role participates in unit leadership meetings, staff education, support, timecard management, nursing leadership participation, and performance management support. The Patient Care Supervisor will support the mission, vision, and values of Park Nicollet Health Services and embody the competencies of 'Head and Heart together'. Under the direction of the Clinical Nursing Director and/or Nurse Manager, the Patient Care Supervisor has direct authority for daily operations of the unit/department, including hiring, staff development, performance management and evaluation, disciplinary actions, and scheduling. They manage and evaluate aspects of patient care delivery, including staff resources, productivity, patient safety, and care quality. This position will work variable shifts as needed and assist in the identification of goals, sharing responsibility with the Manager and Director for process improvements on the unit/department.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or AD in Nursing and Baccalaureate degree in related field required.
  • Licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Minnesota.
  • ACLS Certification.
  • Familiarity with/awareness of equipment used in patient care may include but is not limited to syringes, IV poles, suction machines, BP equipment, stethoscope, feeding pumps, IV pumps, catheter tubes, heating/cooling devices, restraints, computers, wheelchairs, carts, scales, commodes, beds (regular and alternative), shower chairs, Hoyer lift, audiovisual equipment, oximeter's, call lights, Vocera, pagers, Pyxis medication dispensing systems, telemetry battery packs, cardiac monitors, and surgical equipment.
  • Familiarity with computer, fax, printer, copy machine, telephone, and other office machines.

Nice To Haves

  • OR experience preferred.
  • Leadership experience preferred with a proficiency in practice and team oversight in all CST, RN, and Aide roles.
  • Quality Improvement experience (Unit Based Quality Team, committee experience, and/or specific quality improvement project participation) preferred.
  • AORN Certification.
  • Coordination of daily operations, staffing, and preparations for surgical needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively among the surgical services team to join initiatives and alignment to perform as a Highly Reliable Department.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks and prioritize appropriately.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and other disciplines, patients, family members, physicians, public, and external agencies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.

  • Knowledge of the principles of anatomy, physiology, disease process, pharmacology, and psychology.
  • Skilled as a change agent.
  • Ability to be flexible and tolerant of ambiguous situations.
  • Knowledgeable about customer service tools and principles.
  • Knowledge of health care systems and principles of continuum of care, utilization, and resource management issues.
  • Skilled in analyzing data and ability to use data to make data-based decisions.
  • Ability to perform basic word processing on a computer.
