Pre-Vet Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate pre-veterinary student to join our small animal veterinary practice as a Veterinary Assistant. This position is ideal for a student pursuing a career in veterinary medicine who is looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in a clinical setting. This is an excellent opportunity for a pre-veterinary student to gain firsthand experience in a small animal practice, learn from veterinarians and veterinary technicians, and develop practical skills that can help prepare them for a future career in veterinary medicine. Requirements
- Must currently be enrolled in or actively participating in a pre-veterinary/pre-vet program
- Weekday availability is required
- Dependable, punctual, and willing to learn
- Comfortable working with dogs and cats of varying sizes, temperaments, and medical needs
- Must be able to work effectively as part of a veterinary team
Nice To Haves
- Previous veterinary experience is helpful but not required
Responsibilities
- Safely and properly handle and restrain dogs and cats
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with patient care and medical procedures
- Assist with medical care and treatments as directed by veterinarians and technicians
- Prepare patients, treatment areas, and equipment
- Clean and disinfect exam rooms, treatment areas, kennels, and equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe hospital environment
- Assist with patient care and monitoring
- Follow proper animal-handling, safety, and sanitation protocols
- Provide compassionate care to patients throughout their visit
- Perform additional duties as needed to support the veterinary team
