About The Position

VCA East Mill Plain Animal Hospital is an AAHA-accredited, multi-doctor practice serving the Vancouver and Portland metro community for over 30 years. The hospital emphasizes quality patient care, client and associate education, Fear Free practices, teamwork, and a collaborative environment. All team members are Fear Free Certified.

The Veterinary Assistant role is suitable for someone interested in entering the veterinary field. Previous veterinary experience is desired but not required. The hospital is seeking a driven, positive, reliable, and creative team member. This is a full-time opportunity, with schedules of either four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts. Compensation is $18–$19 per hour, based on experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, and other relevant credentials.

Requirements

• Previous experience in the veterinary field is desired but not required.
• Be driven, positive, reliable, and creative.
• Have basic computer knowledge.
• Have verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Be able to prioritize tasks, adapt, and multitask.
• Be able to work collectively in teams and independently.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality patient care using a Fear Free approach.
• Restrain patients during examinations, injections, treatments, induction, and other procedures.
• Maintain hospital cleanliness and building upkeep.
• Prioritize tasks and adjust priorities when needed.
• Multitask and work both collaboratively and independently.
• Clean and pack surgical instruments.
• Prepare and clean the surgical suite.
• Keep hospital supplies stocked.
• Process laboratory samples and run in-hospital blood work panels.
• Assist veterinarians and technicians with tasks.
• Triage and apply critical thinking.
