About The Position

Oakwood Veterinary Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support exceptional client and patient experiences during exams and outpatient visits. The role focuses on client engagement, schedule coordination, multitasking, and supporting efficient hospital operations while ensuring compassionate, high-quality patient care. The hospital provides preventive medicine, dentistry, oral and general surgery, referral orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, chemotherapy, and advanced in-house laboratory testing.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary assistant or other veterinary medicine role.
• Safe animal handling and restraint skills for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments.
• Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and patient-care principles.
• Ability to maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols.
• Compassionate, professional communication with clients and team members.
• Commitment to exceptional patient care and client service.

Nice To Haves

• Pharmacology knowledge.
• Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining patient weights and vital signs.

Responsibilities

• Support efficient exam-room and outpatient workflows to ensure exceptional patient and client care.
• Maintain accurate, thorough medical records and treatment documentation.
• Review treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately.
• Oversee pharmacy duties, including reviewing refill requests, communicating with veterinarians, and filling prescriptions.
