About The Position

Rhawnhurst Animal Hospital and Elkins Park Veterinary Hospital are seeking a compassionate, dependable Veterinary Assistant to join their collaborative team. The two hospitals work together as one cohesive practice, providing exceptional care to small animals and exotics. Rhawnhurst Animal Hospital is located in Northeast Philadelphia, and Elkins Park Veterinary Hospital is just 20 minutes away in Montgomery County. Together, the five-doctor team is committed to delivering high-quality medicine while creating lasting relationships with clients and patients. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a supportive, fast-paced environment where teamwork comes first.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of veterinary assistant experience in a small animal practice
  • Comfortable assisting with patient restraint, sample collection, laboratory procedures, radiology, and pharmacy duties
  • Strong communication and client education skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm in a busy clinical environment
  • Positive attitude with a team-first mindset
  • Availability to work weekdays, evenings, and rotating Saturdays

Nice To Haves

  • Experience assisting with surgery, anesthesia, or dentistry is a plus but is not required.
  • Experience with venipuncture preferred
  • Experience working with exotic pets is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Obtain patient histories and accurately document medical information
  • Safely restrain patients for exams and treatments
  • Collect laboratory samples, including venipuncture when appropriate
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing
  • Prepare and fill medications under veterinary supervision
  • Obtain high-quality digital radiographs
  • Assist with hospitalized patient treatments and monitoring
  • Educate clients on medications, treatment plans, and preventive care
  • Maintain accurate medical records using Impromed software
  • Clean, stock, and organize exam rooms, treatment areas, and equipment
  • Provide exceptional client service while ensuring a positive patient experience
