About The Position
Austin Veterinary Animal Hospital is seeking a compassionate and motivated Veterinary Assistant to join their six-doctor hospital team. The role involves providing exceptional patient care while maintaining a positive culture that balances seriousness with humor and teamwork. The hospital utilizes advanced equipment and offers services such as diagnostic abdominal ultrasound, underwater treadmill rehabilitation, weight loss and arthritis management programs, post-surgical rehabilitation, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, surgical cautery equipment, an Idexx in-house laboratory, and Cornerstone software.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of veterinary experience
- Comfortable with venipuncture and IV catheter placement
- Experience monitoring anesthesia preferred
- Strong communication and client education skills
- Team-oriented attitude with a willingness to learn and grow
- Passion for providing compassionate patient care
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A calm and efficient approach, with the ability to handle a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment with composure.
- Confidence and skill in handling pets of all sizes and temperaments.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in fundamental veterinary skills ranging from laboratory and pharmacy to nursing and radiology is a strong asset.

Responsibilities
- Running appointments and building client relationships
- Educating clients and reviewing treatment plans
- Performing venipuncture and wellness blood work collection
- Placing IV catheters
- Assisting with patient treatments and nursing care
- Supporting doctors and technicians in providing exceptional medicine
- Provide Essential Patient Care: Assisting the medical team with hands-on care and ensuring every animal is treated with compassion and respect.
- Be the Go-To Support for the Medical Team: Anticipating the needs of veterinarians and technicians to ensure a smooth, efficient, and collaborative workflow.
- Create a Positive Client Experience: Assisting with scheduling, payments, and communications, always with a courteous and informative approach.
- Ensure a Safe and Clean Environment: Maintaining the hospital, performing clinic upkeep and equipment maintenance to uphold high standards of care.
