About The Position

Horizon Veterinary Specialists is seeking experienced Veterinary Assistants to join their medical care team. The ideal candidate will have previous professional veterinary medicine experience, excellent communication skills, be detail-oriented, excited and motivated to learn, and have a passion for providing high-quality care to animals. This is a full-time position, and temporary/seasonal help need not apply. The role involves a variety of duties including animal restraint, triage, lab sample collection and analysis, diagnostic imaging, nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases, medication administration, venipuncture, client communication, surgical preparation and assistance, general housekeeping, laundry, sanitizing, sterilizing equipment, stocking supplies, and other routine supportive functions. The position requires the ability to withstand unpleasant odors and noises and may involve exposure to bites, scratches, animal waste, and potentially contagious diseases. The company offers opportunities for growth and development through virtual and hands-on training and continuing education.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years previous experience working in a veterinary hospital
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and push or pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to change between frequent sitting, standing, bending, squatting, crouching, reaching, and walking
  • Consistent punctuality and reliability in adherence to scheduled shifts
  • Availability to work some weekends
  • Experience with safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques
  • Collaborative team-player to ensure optimal patient care
  • Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning
  • Strong reading comprehension and math skills at a high school graduate level or above
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities (with guidance)
  • Professional communication skills, both with peers and clients
  • Ability to handle high-stress situations with poise
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards
  • Accountable, responsible, motivated, proactive, trustworthy, and dependable
