About The Position

Destination Pet is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join the team at North Shore Animal Hospital. The role supports veterinarians in providing compassionate nursing care and helps ensure clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable. The assistant also supports hospital operations through patient care, laboratory work, prescription assistance, recordkeeping, equipment preparation, and reception support. This is a busy hospital seeking a team-oriented candidate who can multitask and work a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, and some holidays. Some experience is required, and the employer is willing to train.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of clinic experience as a veterinary assistant; the posting also notes that some experience is required and the employer is willing to train.
• High school diploma.
• Friendly, outgoing, people-oriented, and self-motivated team player.
• Attentive to detail, with effective oral and written communication and strong technical skills.
• Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays; the posting specifically seeks flexible availability for nights, weekends, and some holidays.
• Frequently lift 40 pounds and frequently stand, walk, and climb stairs.
• Able to use a computer system and a multi-line telephone.
• Able to handle dogs on leashes and comfortably restrain animals during medical examinations.
• Able to work around disinfectant and sanitation chemicals, animal dander, and animal excretions.
• Able to multitask and work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Help clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable.
• Assist veterinarians in providing compassionate nursing care.
• Clean, maintain, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Fill prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian and explain prescription directions.
• Assist receptionists with check-in and checkout procedures and provide telephone support.
• Perform various laboratory tests.
• Keep facilities clean and well maintained.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
