Veterinary Assistant - Triage
About The Position
BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Triage Veterinary Assistant for its 24/7 Emergency department. This role involves triaging emergency cases, assisting DVMs with estimates, performing diagnostics like radiographs and labwork, setting up patients in ICU or Inpatient wards, discharging patients, and handling client communication. The Veterinary Assistant provides nursing care, reports patient information during rounds, understands medication classifications and side effects, administers medications, and performs physical exams. They should also have a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines. - Possess unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card
Responsibilities
- Triage emergency cases as they come in
- Assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed
- Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc)
- Set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward
- Discharge patients
- Handle client communication
- Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values
- Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds
- Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response
- Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
- Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
- Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor
