About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department. This role requires a candidate who can work independently while contributing to a larger team goal, with responsibilities including post-operative client communication. A rotating on-call schedule is required after training is completed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal.
  • Must be able to perform post-operative client communication.
  • Must be able to work a rotating on-call schedule once training is completed.
  • Ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
  • Ability to perform physical exams and accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Understanding of normal vital parameters and ability to alert doctor when abnormal.
  • Ability to set up intravenous fluids.
  • Ability to administer subcutaneous fluids.
  • Ability to operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
  • Ability to aseptically disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids.
  • Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
  • Must possess unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
