About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department. This role requires a candidate who can work independently while contributing to a larger team goal, with responsibilities including post-operative client communication. A rotating on-call schedule is required after training is completed.

Requirements

Minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
Ability to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal.
Must be able to perform post-operative client communication.
Must be able to work a rotating on-call schedule once training is completed.
Ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
Ability to perform physical exams and accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
Understanding of normal vital parameters and ability to alert doctor when abnormal.
Ability to set up intravenous fluids.
Ability to administer subcutaneous fluids.
Ability to operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
Ability to aseptically disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids.
Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
Must possess unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Responsibilities

Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
Able to set up intravenous fluids.
Administers subcutaneous fluids.
Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
Able to disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
