About The Position

VCA Dallas Animal Specialty Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic veterinary technician to join our Radiation Oncology team full time! We are a collaborative, supportive, and progressive team looking for someone who thrives in an environment that promotes and encourages growth and development. As a Radiation Oncology Veterinary Technician, you will work closely with our Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Therapy Technologist (RTT), learning and understanding different radiation energies/modalities, admitting and discharging oncology patients, assisting with CT simulations, preparing and delivering radiation therapy treatments, monitoring anesthesia, and utilizing full technician skills. We prioritize associate safety with hands-free radiology and encourage collaboration across all hospital services. Requirements

  • LVT preferred, not required
  • Minimum 3 years of veterinary technician/assistant experience
  • Safe restraint of cats and dogs
  • Critical thinking and detail oriented
  • Anesthesia monitoring
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong desire to provide exceptional client experience
  • Possess the ability to multitask, handle stressful and emotional situations
  • Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and self-starting with a professional and positive attitude

Responsibilities

  • Learn and understand the different types of radiation energies/modalities and appropriate uses for each
  • Admit Oncology patients and obtain a thorough history including current medications and dosages, response to treatment and side effects, intensity and duration
  • Discharge Oncology patients from the hospital, including basic client education
  • Assist veterinary technicians in procedures outside of radiation administration, such as CT simulations
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of radiation therapy treatments
  • Monitor and induce anesthesia plans to patients during radiation therapy sessions and provide post-treatment care
  • Full Technician Skill Utilization
  • Hands Free Radiology (Associate safety a top priority)
  • Calculate drug doses
  • Collaborate with team members from all hospital services
  • Provide compassionate care for all patients and have compassion and empathy towards clients
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of treatments
