About The Position

Charleston Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC) is seeking a full-time Internal Medicine Veterinary Assistant to join our Specialty Internal Medicine team in Charleston, SC. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Veterinary Assistant who enjoys advanced patient care, client interaction, and working alongside board-certified specialists to provide exceptional medical care for complex cases. You'll support patients through diagnostics, treatments, and follow-up care while continuing to grow your clinical skills in a collaborative specialty hospital.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant preferred
  • Specialty or emergency veterinary experience preferred
  • Experience with advanced patient handling and restraint
  • Strong interest in specialty veterinary medicine and internal medicine
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced specialty environment
  • Experience with EzyVet and SmartFlow preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred
  • Ability to safely lift and restrain animals weighing over 50 pounds with assistance when appropriate
  • Bilingual or multilingual communication skills are a plus
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required

Responsibilities

  • Assist Internal Medicine veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians during appointments, examinations, and procedures.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostics, treatments, and advanced medical procedures.
  • Obtain patient histories, vital signs, and assist with patient assessments.
  • Safely restrain patients for examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and imaging.
  • Assist with blood collection, laboratory sample preparation, and diagnostic testing.
  • Support hospitalized Internal Medicine patients by assisting with treatments and patient care.
  • Prepare examination rooms and procedure areas while maintaining cleanliness and organization.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain medical equipment and treatment areas.
  • Fill prescriptions and assist with medication preparation as directed.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and support efficient patient flow throughout the Internal Medicine service.
  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients and hospital team members.
  • Follow OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Internal Medicine department.
