This position provides all veterinary services for shelter animals and Police K9s. Responsibilities include conducting full physical examinations, diagnostics, and radiographs, performing surgical procedures (including spay/neuter), administering treatments, medications, and preventive care, and performing euthanasia services for medical, behavioral, or public safety reasons, including wildlife. The role also involves preparing and submitting laboratory specimens for rabies testing, providing animal health and handling training for employees, serving as a consultant for animal cruelty, neglect, hoarding, and dog fighting investigations, performing necropsies, testifying in court as an expert witness, administering rabies vaccinations at county rabies clinics, and maintaining detailed and accurate medical records and documentation. The veterinarian will collaborate with shelter leadership and staff to promote overall animal wellness and perform other work as required. The shift is Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with subject to emergency call outs for cruelty/seizure cases, emergency sheltering, etc. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of illegal drugs and/or medical marijuana is prohibited. Employees must not consume or be under the influence of alcohol while on duty, on work premises, or operating agency equipment. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy” and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or be a lawful permanent resident eligible for naturalization.
