About The Position

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is hiring a full-time veterinarian to support animals and the community through spay/neuter surgery, vaccine clinics, and providing care for homeless animals in our shelter. They’ll work with an amazing team of veterinarians who practice a culture of mentorship, training, and support for each other. The veterinarian reports to a supervising veterinarian and splits their time between our Milwaukee Campus and our Spay/Neuter Clinic. Veterinarians at WHS receive a AVMA membership and funding for liability insurance and continuing education (CE). WHS is a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. Requirements

  • DVM degree and license required
  • Ability to partner with clients, staff, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated alignment with our mission, people-centered philosophy, and organizational values of compassion, respect, and kindness; innovation; professionalism; equity; and positive approach
  • Ability to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work
  • Able to successfully meet the physical demands of the job, which include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • high volume spay/neuter or shelter medicine experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performing high-volume, high-quality, safe spay/neuter surgeries for shelter and public animals
  • Perform other surgeries as needed for shelter animals
  • Ensuring safe, effective and efficient medical processes from check in to discharge, including follow up
  • Vaccinating animals and providing quality medical screenings
  • Monitoring the daily health of client and shelter animals
  • Providing medical information to clients and answer questions as needed
  • Develop and implement treatment plans as needed for animals in shelter and foster
  • Train and support any WHS team members in all aspects of patient care and efficient/safe clinic practices, while maintaining a professional and positive approach
  • All other duties as assigned
