About The Position
How you’ll impact our mission: The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is hiring a full-time veterinarian to support animals and the community through spay/neuter surgery, vaccine clinics, and providing care for homeless animals in our shelter. They’ll work with an amazing team of veterinarians who practice a culture of mentorship, training, and support for each other. The veterinarian reports to a supervising veterinarian and splits their time between our Milwaukee Campus and our Spay/Neuter Clinic. Veterinarians at WHS receive a AVMA membership and funding for liability insurance and continuing education (CE). WHS is a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. Requirements
- DVM degree and license required
- Ability to partner with clients, staff, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds

- Ability to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work
- Able to successfully meet the physical demands of the job, which include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Nice To Haves
- high volume spay/neuter or shelter medicine experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Performing high-volume, high-quality, safe spay/neuter surgeries for shelter and public animals
- Perform other surgeries as needed for shelter animals
- Ensuring safe, effective and efficient medical processes from check in to discharge, including follow up
- Vaccinating animals and providing quality medical screenings
- Monitoring the daily health of client and shelter animals
- Providing medical information to clients and answer questions as needed
- Develop and implement treatment plans as needed for animals in shelter and foster
- Train and support any WHS team members in all aspects of patient care and efficient/safe clinic practices, while maintaining a professional and positive approach
- All other duties as assigned
