About The Position

Texoma Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced veterinarian to join their growing team in Sherman, Texas. This AAHA-accredited small animal hospital offers a unique opportunity for a veterinarian who enjoys general practice but desires to handle more complex medical cases. The hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, including CT imaging, ultrasound, digital radiography, and an in-house laboratory, enabling comprehensive case workups and management of challenging cases within the practice. The Managing Veterinarian, Dr. David Tidwell, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and has extensive experience with complex medical cases. The practice sees a significant internal medicine caseload alongside comprehensive preventive care, dentistry, surgery, dermatology, and reproductive services. This role is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys the diagnostic aspect of medicine, wants to utilize advanced technology, collaborate with an experienced team, and continue clinical growth while maintaining the rewarding aspects of general practice. This position is a result of practice growth, not a replacement.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited AVMA institution.
  • Appropriate state licensure.
  • Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.
  • Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
  • Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.
  • Provide counsel around pet end of life care.
  • Maintain patients’ medical records.
  • Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures.
