Job Description: • Maintains the facility’s USDA license, NIH Animal Welfare Assurance and AAALAC accreditation by assuring compliance with the Federal Animal Welfare Regulations, the Public Health Service policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and recommendations in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. • Performs veterinary examinations and directs medical treatments as part of standard care, study specific requirements, and veterinary orders. • Performs and documents a variety of activities, including but not limited to, physical, gait, and neurological examinations; routine veterinary observations; charting of physiological data and animal health status; etc. • Trains and supervises personnel in concepts such as veterinary care, aseptic surgery, animal welfare and special techniques. • Performs surgical procedures and participate in projects where surgical/clinical expertise, postmortem examination, diagnostic expertise, and/or veterinary care are required • Monitors animals’ progress in anesthetic recovery and post-operatively on the days following surgery to ensure appropriate healing. • Advises on the development of new surgical methods to enlarge NAMSA competencies and reputation • May serve as a member of IACUC • Shares with after-hours, weekend, and on-call duties. • Assists with laboratory and technical staff training. • Serves as principal investigator writing reports and/or as project coordinator, as assigned. • Develops SOPs, GLP protocols, study plans, and reports as needed. • Participates in audits/inspections as needed. • May serve as non-GLP project coordinator as assigned. • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

0-3 years of related experience or ACLAM board certification.
DVM and a valid state veterinary license.

Nice To Haves

Research experience with a broad knowledge of animal models is preferred.
Experience in a GLP environment is a plus.
