About The Position

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking a Veterinarian 2 to work in Monroe, Livingston, Ontario and Yates Counties. As a Veterinarian 2, you would provide a full range of surveillance, diagnostic, disease control and eradication, and preventative animal health services to livestock producers, companion animal owners and caretakers, and public health partners within an assigned geographic region. You would plan, coordinate, and adapt medical and program procedures to deal with animals and birds infected with or exposed to contagious livestock diseases, inspect and examine animals and birds with evidence of persistent or recurrent disease conditions for the probable causes and effects, diagnose symptoms of suspect rds and flocks to identify the specific disease and treatment necessary, and certify the health of livestock to be exported to other countries. You may have sole responsibility for one or more statewide program(s) which would require you to be the leader, technical expert, and administrator in that program area. This position can be based out of your home and requires travel within an assigned region. This position is perfect for a self-driven candidate who wants autonomy over their schedule, the ability to work from home, and enjoys working outside the office setting! This position is in Monroe, Wayne, Livingston, Ontario and Yates Counties. Residency in one of these counties is preferred. The Veterinarian 2 is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from a college/university accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association or equivalent
  • Possession of a license to practice veterinary medicine in New York State
  • Proof of accreditation by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the United States Department of Agriculture
  • Three years of experience dealing with livestock diseases including horses, cattle, sheep, swine, and poultry or wildlife
  • Possess a valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and have access to a motor vehicle when necessary or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the regular transportation requirements in carrying out their field work responsibilities.
  • Must be able to travel out-of-state for overnight trips on occasion due to ongoing training commitments.
