About The Position

The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is seeking a part-time Veterans Lounge Student Worker for its Veterans Initiatives Office. This role involves supporting veterans in the DC/MD/VA area both in-person at the Hildebrand Veterans Lounge in the Dorsey Academic Center in Elkridge, MD, and virtually. The position is capped at 19 hours per week.

Requirements

• Eligible students must be currently pursuing education at UMGC and qualify as training ¾ time or greater
• Must have served in the United States Military and/or are using Veterans Benefits OR be the spouse of an active duty or veteran servicemember

Responsibilities

• Serve as a receptionist for the Hildebrand Student Veterans Lounge located at the Dorsey Station regional location
• Virtually host Virtual Student Lounge in addition to Workshop Wednesday series via Zoom
• Participate in events hosted by Veterans Initiatives Office
• Advise students of the available programs and resources
• Provide assistance with general inquiries regarding veterans benefits
• Process SALUTE Honor Society applications
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Benefits

• Student Workers that regularly work over 12 hrs per week are eligible for limited sick and safe leave at the rate of 1 hr for every 30 hrs worked, up to a maximum accrual of 40 hrs in a calendar year
• No other benefits are offered to student workers
