Every day is Veterans Day at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Homes. We serve South Dakota Veterans and their families through quality health care in an environment and community of trust, dignity and sharing in our beautiful facility located in lovely Hot Springs, South Dakota. At the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Homes, we not only consider it our duty to provide the highest level of care to those who answered our nation's call, we believe it is an honor. As a long-term care facility, our beautiful home offers 70 private nursing care units and 23 units for independent living. The Veterans Home RN is an important and valuable member to the South Dakota Veterans Home by "taking care of America's Heroes" by providing professional nursing services that require the application of basic nursing principles, practices, and techniques that follow established healthcare procedures and standards. Successful candidates work in a long-term care setting at the South Dakota State Veterans Home and operate in a patient care environment where the focus is on the healthcare of individuals. Pay rate and classification level will be determined by combination of education and experience. Responsibilities in the higher classification will be similar; however, complexity and oversight may change.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed and able to work as a registered nurse in South Dakota.
  • Registered Nurse License and associate degree, bachelor degree, or 3-year diploma.
  • New graduates welcome.
  • On-the-job training is available.
  • All certificates and/or tests required for performance at this level must be obtained and/or completed.
  • Knowledge of Professional Nursing Theory and practices; recent development in the field of professional nursing applicable to the area of assignment; clinical procedures.
  • Ability to keep records; follow instructions; operate a variety of medical equipment; make reports on observations; apply general nursing techniques and practices; maintain a helpful and sympathetic attitude toward patients; communicate effectively; deal effectively with patients and staff.
  • Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation.
  • Successful applicant(s) will undergo an abuse and neglect screening.
  • Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening.
  • The State of South Dakota does not sponsor work visas for new or existing employees.
  • All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete an Employment Eligibility Verification, Form I-9.

Benefits

  • $5.00 per hour shift pay for night shifts
  • $1.00 per hour shift pay for pm shift
  • $1.50 per hour weekend pay
