About The Position

This position at the Department of Veterans Affairs Michael J Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home is a flexible, part-time position. The Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Homes serves South Dakota Veterans and their families through quality health care in an environment and community of trust, dignity and sharing in a beautiful facility located in Hot Springs, South Dakota. As a long-term care facility, the home offers 70 private nursing care units and 23 units for independent living. This position provides patient care within the scope of practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by preparing and administering prescribed medications and treatments, IV therapies, maintaining medical records, and monitoring work of subordinates to ensure quality care is provided and in compliance with patient care procedures and department policies. The role requires the application of basic nursing principles, practices, and techniques following established healthcare procedures and standards. Employees in this role usually operate in a patient care environment where the focus is on the healthcare of individuals. To be successful in this role, employees seek guidance and advice from more experienced colleagues and are focused on gaining the knowledge and experience to perform more independently and participate in work of higher complexity. The incumbent works in a long-term care setting at the South Dakota State Veterans Home.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or eligible to be licensed in the State of South Dakota
  • All certificates and/or tests required for performance at this level must be obtained and/or completed
  • Must apply online
  • Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States
  • Must complete an Employment Eligibility Verification, Form I-9
  • Must undergo a background investigation
  • Must undergo an abuse and neglect screening
  • Successful completion of a drug screening is required
