About The Position

The Veterans Engagement Specialist serves as a key liaison between the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) and veteran populations, ensuring access to high-quality, recovery-oriented behavioral health and substance use services. This role focuses on outreach, engagement, and ongoing support for veterans, including those who are underserved, disconnected from care, or experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges. The Specialist promotes a trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach that recognizes the unique experiences of veterans, including combat exposure, reintegration challenges, and military culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least 4 years of military experience
  • Driver’s License
  • Ability to work independently and follow an approved work plan. Must proactively schedule appointments, meetings and events to reach targeted goals.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills. Experience working with diverse populations and multiple agencies simultaneously.
  • High energy and demonstrated creative, organizational and problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities.
  • Superior written, verbal, interpersonal and conflict resolution abilities. Ability to get along with diverse personalities and be flexible in thought and actions.
  • Demonstrated reasoning abilities with solid judgment and high level of integrity, credibility and diplomacy.
  • Reliable, flexible, and collaborative team player with demonstrated leadership, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Flexibility with ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment and assist in tasks as needed including other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct targeted community outreach to identify and engage veterans in need of behavioral health and substance use services.
  • Build trusting relationships with veterans through consistent, strengths-based engagement.
  • Provide education on available CCBHC services, including mental health, substance use treatment, primary care coordination, and crisis services.
  • Assist veterans with intake, enrollment, and navigation of services.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, person-centered care.
  • Support veterans in accessing benefits and services through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other community resources.
  • Active participation in the Zero Suicide Committee.
  • Assist in developing veteran-specific programming, support groups, or wellness initiatives within CCBHC.
  • Identify and address barriers to care such as stigma, transportation, housing instability, or lack of awareness.
  • Provide ongoing engagement to promote retention in treatment and recovery services.
  • Participate in care coordination, including case conferencing and treatment planning.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with OMH and CCBHC standards.
  • Develop partnerships with veteran-serving organizations, shelters, and community groups.
  • Maintain Veteran’s Treatment Court paperwork, ongoing communication with court liaison, and transporting individuals to necessary court appointments.
  • Attend community events as needed as a representative for Access: Supports for Living. Work includes nights and weekend events with the ability to flex hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provide feedback to leadership on trends, gaps, and needs within the veteran population.
  • Support data collection and reporting requirements for CCBHC quality measures.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, recovery, and resilience within the organization.
