As a Veteran Peer Support Specialist, you will use your lived experience, relationship-building skills, and community knowledge to provide peer support, mentorship, advocacy, and life skills coaching to veterans. You will serve as a trusted resource, helping veterans navigate housing, healthcare, employment, benefits, and recovery services while fostering a supportive and empowering community environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience working with veterans, homeless populations, behavioral health programs, recovery services, or community-based programs preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to engage and motivate individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience facilitating groups, mentoring, coaching, or providing peer support preferred
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office applications
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company insurance requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Veteran status strongly preferred
  • Certified Peer Support Specialist certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification
  • Experience with housing programs, recovery services, case management support, or behavioral health services
  • Knowledge of VA programs, community resources, and veteran services

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support, mentoring, coaching, and encouragement to veterans working toward personal, housing, and recovery goals
  • Build positive, professional relationships with veterans while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Facilitate peer support groups, life skills workshops, and community-building activities
  • Assist veterans in accessing housing, healthcare, benefits, employment services, legal resources, and community programs
  • Support veterans in developing independent living skills and achieving self-sufficiency
  • Conduct wellness checks, client follow-up, and supportive outreach
  • Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation of conflicts or behavioral concerns
  • Collaborate with Case Managers, Social Workers, Housing Specialists, and other service providers to coordinate care
  • Participate in case conferences, treatment team meetings, and program planning activities
  • Assist with maintaining accurate client documentation and program records
  • Support quality assurance activities, data collection, and reporting requirements
  • Coordinate recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities that promote community engagement and recovery
  • Transport clients to appointments, housing viewings, community resources, and other essential services as needed
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, VA requirements, and program policies
  • Support veterans in transitional housing, supportive housing, rapid rehousing, or behavioral health programs
  • Assist with housing navigation and housing stability services
  • Conduct outreach and engagement activities for veterans experiencing homelessness
  • Provide tenant education and housing retention support
  • Assist veterans with accessing VA, Social Security, and public benefits
  • Participate in community outreach events, Stand Downs, and resource fairs
  • Serve as a liaison between veterans and community partners
