About The Position

Coyne Veterinary Center in Portage is seeking an experienced veterinary assistant to join their team. The primary role of a veterinary assistant is to provide exceptional patient care and exceed client expectations, serving as the veterinarian's primary support. This role involves patient assessments, anesthesia, procedures, and treatments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, capable of making sound decisions, responding calmly to crises, and maintaining high patient care standards. Effective communication with veterinarians, hospital staff, and clients is crucial for ensuring patients receive necessary care. Veterinary assistants should enjoy working with diverse people and animals, be friendly, and flexible. The role requires significant multi-tasking and creative thinking, with the ability to remain calm and lead during emergencies. A strong belief in the quality of care provided and the ability to clearly communicate the value of services to clients are essential, along with excellent client communication and customer service skills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18 years old.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a veterinary assistant.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
  • Effective communication with clients in person and by phone.
  • Experience in caring for animals, including proper restraint techniques.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Ability to work with computer-based veterinary software.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Endure standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment.
  • Take safety precautions for exposure to toxins, drugs, anesthesia and radiation.
