About The Position

STV is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Vehicles Engineering Co-op Student to join our Vehicles/Systems Engineering team. This internship offers an opportunity for undergraduate candidates to work alongside our experienced team, learn, and contribute to meaningful projects. In this role, you can gain real-world engineering consulting experience for rail transit vehicles for passenger transport, including Project Management, technical reviews, drawing and submittal reviews, testing assistance, as well as other engineering and management tasks. We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in rail transportation and is seeking to learn rail design fundamentals under the direction of experienced engineers. This position requires at least 5 days per week in the office. Candidates may be considered for one of the following internship terms: September through March or April through September.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field at an ABET-accredited University or NCEES equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using AutoCAD.
  • Strong working knowledge of various State and local entities specifications and preferences.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access, Mathcad, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design reviews and problem-solving on rail vehicle subsystems, ensuring design integrity and functionality.
  • Provide support for the inspection and field testing of rail rolling stock at client locations, both nationally and internationally.
  • Perform information take-offs from engineering drawings and assist with drawing interpretation for various projects.
  • Prepare technical studies and assist with small AutoCAD projects, contributing to the design and development process.
  • Develop spreadsheets and databases using MS Excel and Access, and analyze test data to support engineering decisions.
  • Prepare reports for project and design review meetings, which may take place at client locations.
  • Assist in the development, revision, and interpretation of systems specifications for clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to complete assigned tasks effectively.
