About The Position

The Vehicle Operator transports individuals to directed destinations in accordance with program and agency guidelines. The role also supports Auxiliary Services through inventory management, residential deliveries, mail services, and backup transportation duties.

Requirements

• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or transporting individuals.
• Maintain a valid driver's license.
• Meet the physical demands of the role, including regularly lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds unassisted and performing frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, as well as regular exertion involving some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling.

• Experience working with the developmental disabilities population.
• Experience operating a 10- to 15-passenger vehicle.
• Experience operating ADA-equipped vehicles with wheelchair lifts.

Responsibilities

• Transport individuals within the agency to hospitals, clinics, social functions, and other activities according to established guidelines and time frames.
• Assist individuals with boarding and exiting vehicles and use efficient routes.
• Perform routine vehicle maintenance and safety checks; inspect vehicles for safe operation and use safety equipment effectively, including ensuring seat belt use.
• Promptly report accidents and mechanical breakdowns according to established policies and guidelines.
• Communicate emerging behavioral or medical concerns to the supervisor within 24 hours of becoming aware of them.
• Maintain a valid and appropriate license for the assigned vehicle.
• Record mileage, fuel consumption, passenger information, maintenance, and repairs in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
• Assist with inventory management, including stocking, sorting, and delivering items.
• Assist with monthly IDD residential deliveries, including food shopping and deliveries.
• Assist with mail services.
• Provide transportation backup as assigned or needed and perform other duties assigned through Auxiliary Services.
