About The Position

Nasittuq provides Operation & Maintenance services for the North Warning System (NWS). The NWS is a joint Canada and United States early-warning radar system with 47 sites located in Northern Canada; a Control Centre and Support Centre located in North Bay, ON and a Contract Management Office located in Ottawa, ON. Requirements

  • High School education or a combination of education and experience.
  • Qualified Motor Vehicle Mechanic (310S and/or 310T with diesel endorsement). A provincial/territorial certificate of qualification is required. Military QL 5 or Journeyman qualification in heavy equipment or Automotive Technician. Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on field experience, with experience in heavy equipment within the last 10 years.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks. Skilled in the use of diagnostic equipment and capable of working in remote, cold environments.
  • Ability to commit to working rotational shifts on a consistent basis.
  • Ability to work effectively in remote northern conditions and live in remote camp environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a remote camp setting with limited access to resources is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs of site vehicles, heavy equipment, and powered support equipment.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests, problem-solving, and corrective maintenance on land, water, and snow equipment (e.g., trucks, graders, snowmobiles, generators, and more).
  • Provide On-the-Job Training (OJT) to new or authorized staff.
  • Assist with the operation of snow-clearing equipment and the loading/unloading of aircraft.
  • Sample POL products and assist in fuel off-loading operations.
  • Document reports and maintain files as per NWS work management systems.
  • Travel between adjacent radar sites as required.
