About The Position

The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Parts Specialist to support school bus maintenance operations. This role is crucial for fleet readiness, ensuring technicians have timely access to necessary parts and supplies, and maintaining accurate, audit-ready procurement and inventory records. Requirements

  • A high school diploma and related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) or more years of clerical, accounting, procurement, or inventory experience in transportation, maintenance, or warehouse operations.
  • Proficiency with AssetWorks, vendor platforms, and standard office software.
  • Experience supporting fleet, maintenance, or shop operations.
  • Experience in administrative, procurement, inventory, or clerical work.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and comply with state procurement and inventory policies.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, issue, organize, and track parts and materials using AssetWorks to ensure accurate inventory levels, proper bin locations, and dependable access for technicians.
  • Perform scheduled inventory counts, resolve discrepancies, monitor oil, fluids, and shop supplies, and ensure timely replenishment in accordance with purchasing guidelines.
  • Obtain vendor quotes, submit purchase requests, place orders, process procurement card and purchase order transactions, reconcile payments, and resolve vendor discrepancies.
  • Record fuel readings, order fuel, document non-agency fuel usage, prepare reimbursement invoices, and maintain underground storage tank documentation and required testing records.
  • Research parts using vendor platforms and schematics, assist technicians with parts identification, dispatch work assignments as needed, and provide basic computer and operational support.
  • Manage correspondence, filings, reports, audits, and documentation while ensuring all procurement, inventory, and fuel records remain complete and audit-ready.
