About The Position

Richmond Hill Toyota is seeking a high-performing, results-driven Vehicle Acquisitions Manager to join their leadership team. The successful candidate will play a key role in building and managing a high-quality, profitable pre-owned inventory through strategic vehicle sourcing, trade-in acquisition, market analysis, wholesale purchasing, and direct-to-consumer acquisition. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced automotive professional who understands the used-vehicle market, is highly analytical, and thrives in a fast-paced, performance-driven dealership environment. The Vehicle Acquisitions Manager is responsible for sourcing, appraising, purchasing, and managing pre-owned vehicle inventory to support the dealership’s sales and profitability objectives. This role requires a strong understanding of vehicle valuation, market demand, inventory turn, gross profit, reconditioning costs, and overall used-vehicle profitability. The successful candidate will work closely with all dealership departments to ensure the dealership maintains the right inventory, at the right price, at the right time.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in automotive vehicle acquisition, used-vehicle management, wholesale buying.
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian used-vehicle market and current market trends.
  • Experience using vehicle valuation, market pricing, auction, and inventory management tools.
  • Strong understanding of used-vehicle profitability, gross profit, inventory turn, and reconditioning costs.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • OMVIC Certified.
  • Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
  • Commercially minded, highly competitive, analytical, and confident making decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable making decisions, negotiating aggressively but professionally, holding yourself and others accountable, and using data to drive purchasing and inventory decisions.
  • Has a strong “eye for inventory” and understands what sells.
  • Makes decisions based on facts, market data, and profitability.
  • Can negotiate confidently with auctions, wholesalers, vendors, and customers.
  • Understands the relationship between acquisition cost, reconditioning, pricing, gross profit, and inventory turn.

Responsibilities

  • Source and acquire high-quality pre-owned vehicles through customer trades, auctions, wholesale channels, private sellers, off-lease opportunities, and direct-to-consumer purchases.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with auction representatives, wholesalers, vendors, and private sellers.
  • Identify acquisition opportunities that align with dealership demand, inventory strategy, and profitability objectives.
  • Monitor market trends and identify emerging opportunities within the pre-owned vehicle market.
  • Maintain a disciplined approach to acquisition costs and purchasing decisions.
  • Conduct accurate and competitive appraisals of customer trade-ins and off-lease vehicles.
  • Work closely with the Sales Team to provide timely appraisals that support vehicle sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Assess vehicle condition, market value, demand, reconditioning requirements, and potential resale value.
  • Ensure appraisal decisions balance customer acquisition, inventory needs, and profitability.
  • Monitor pre-owned inventory levels, age, turn, market position, and profitability.
  • Ensure inventory mix aligns with customer demand and dealership objectives.
  • Review aging units and develop strategies to maximize profitability and minimize losses.
  • Work closely with Service and Reconditioning teams to ensure vehicles are prepared efficiently and meet dealership standards.
  • Monitor market pricing and ensure inventory remains competitively positioned.
  • Purchase vehicles within established budgets and profitability parameters.
  • Analyze gross profit, market pricing, days-to-sale, reconditioning costs, and inventory turn.
  • Make data-driven decisions regarding acquisition, pricing, disposition, and wholesale.
  • Identify opportunities to improve used-vehicle gross, volume, inventory turn, and overall departmental profitability.
  • Maintain accountability for the financial performance of acquired inventory.
  • Ensure all vehicle acquisition transactions comply with OMVIC, applicable legislation, Toyota standards, and dealership policies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records for all vehicle purchases and acquisitions.
  • Ensure proper processes are followed for vehicle ownership, title, appraisal, purchase, and inventory flow.
  • Maintain the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in all purchasing activities.
