About The Position

VELCO manages the safe, reliable, cost-effective transmission of electric power throughout Vermont and as part of the integrated New England regional network. VELCO’s Advancing Grid Intelligence through Learning Experiences (AGILE) Program is a summer internship opportunity for undergraduate and graduate college students. Based on principles of agile project management, AGILE Interns will make meaningful and tangible contributions to VELCO’s strategic projects to protect reliability and affordability of the transmission system. We’re seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Vegetation Management Intern to join our team and gain hands-on experience in supporting field and analytical activities that help ensure vegetation near VELCO’s transmission lines are identified, managed, and maintained in accordance with established standards and cycles. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience with field work, environmental awareness, GIS technology, data analysis and relationship building while contributing directly to the reliability of Vermont’s electric grid.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in forestry, natural resources, environmental science, arboriculture, GIS, or a related field
Basic understanding of vegetation management, forestry, arboriculture, or natural resource practices.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Eagerness to learn and contribute to a collaborative environment.
The selected candidate will need to live in close proximity to Rutland, Vermont during the 10 week summer internship program.
Reliable transportation required.
