About The Position

VELCO, the nation's first statewide, "transmission only" company, manages the safe, reliable, and cost-effective transmission of electric power throughout Vermont and as part of the integrated New England regional network. The Advancing Grid Intelligence through Learning Experiences (AGILE) Program is a summer internship opportunity for undergraduate and graduate college students. AGILE Interns will make meaningful and tangible contributions to VELCO’s strategic projects to protect the reliability and affordability of the transmission system. This role will gain hands-on experience with field work, environmental awareness, GIS technology, data analysis, and relationship building while contributing directly to the reliability of Vermont’s electric grid.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in forestry, natural resources, environmental science, arboriculture, GIS, or a related field
Basic understanding of vegetation management, forestry, arboriculture, or natural resource practices.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Eagerness to learn and contribute to a collaborative environment.
Ability to safely navigate transmission rights-of-way, wooded areas, uneven terrain, steep slopes, and other outdoor environments.
Walking extended distances through wooded and uneven terrain.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing over natural obstacles.
Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Carrying field equipment and technology.
Must live in close proximity to Rutland, Vermont during the 10-week summer internship program.
Reliable transportation required.
Eligible applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
