About The Position

The County of Grande Prairie is seeking a Seasonal Vegetation Control professional to spray weeds and brush on County-owned property, including roadsides and gravel pits. This role is temporary, starting immediately until October 31st, 2026. The position typically operates Monday through Friday, with a 5:00 a.m. start time during peak season, and may require some weekend and evening work. Requirements

  • A valid Class 5 driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract.
  • Ability to maintain equipment (e.g., change oil).
  • Ability to manage time and priorities, and ability to multi-task.
  • Comfortable using computers, including MS Office software.
  • Comfortable reading maps and accurately determining land locations.
  • Physically fit.
  • Comfortable dealing with the public and working alone for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform work in adverse weather conditions including heat, cold, and inclement weather.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with weed and crop identification.
  • Pesticide Applicator's License (Industrial and Agricultural) or Authorized Assistant Certificate.
  • Spray truck/UTV/ATV/trailer hauling/hand spraying/trimming experience.
  • Pesticide Authorized Assistant certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing and documenting areas to be sprayed, determining priorities and water location.
  • Locating spray areas on a map.
  • Safely loading and filling water and chemical, and transporting to spray site.
  • Determining and double-checking if the area is a no-spray zone.
  • Identifying target species and crops while in motion.
  • Monitoring water/chemical use, distance covered, and weather conditions.
  • Operating and maintaining equipment such as spray truck, UTV, ATV, hand sprayers, and trimmers.
  • Maintaining spraying records.
  • Daily and monthly reporting.
  • Chemical spill containment and clean-up.
  • Completing required training such as TDG, H2S, ATV/UTV, and Defensive Driving.

Benefits

  • Hourly Pay: $29.27 to $34.43.
